Wether you’re after an easy flat walk around a beautiful lake,
or you’re wanting to climb to the top of the mountain.

There are plenty of stunning walks throughout Huntly.

Lake Hakanoa Walkway

Length: 3.62km
Time: 45min 

Take a walk around the historic and stunning Lake Hakanoa. Dedicated Huntly locals supported by the Waikato District Council and key funders have transformed this wilderness into Huntly’s most sought after attraction.

Walking at a steady pace it should take you around 45 minutes to walk around the 3.62 Km that circles the entire Lake Hakanoa. The walkway is split into 13 different zones, each with its own separate and different identity.

Entrance to The Lake Hakanoa Walkway is at the Huntly Domain, at the end of Park Avenue.  


Lake Puketirini

Length: 6.62km
Time: 1.5 hours

What was once the Weavers Opencast Mine is now Lake Puketrini, a pristine lake for sailing, boating, and swimming. The lake provides tracks for walking, cross country, off road running and mountain biking, along with rest points and viewing spots with glimpses of the lake. 
There is also a large diving platform for deep diving training and a boat ramp and two jetties for boating and sailing.

The walking track around Lake Puketrini will take you 1.15 hours at a steady pace. Lake Puketrini is located 400 metres to the west of the Tainui Bridge on Rotowaro Road.


Hakarimata Walkway

Following the Hakarimata Rangers from Huntly to Ngaruawahia, the walking track can be split into sections making it ideal for any fitness level.


Kauri Loop Track

Length: 2.4km (Loop)
Time: 52 min (Loop)

Making its way up the north face of the ranges, the Kauri Loop Track offers stunning views of towering, native Kauri. The track makes its way past an old pa site, native bush, a grove of young Kauri, and large Rimu on the way to the summit that offers stunning views of Hunty.


Hakarimata Southern Lookout

Length: 1.5km (To Summit)
Time: 40 min (To Summit)

Making its way up the north face of the ranges, the Kauri Loop Track offers stunning views of towering, native Kauri. The track makes its way past an old pa site, native bush, a grove of young Kauri, and large Rimu on the way to the summit that offers stunning views of Hunty.


Hakarimata Walking Track

Length: 12km (One Way)
Time: 7 hr 30 min (From end to end)

The Hakarimata Walkway traveres the Hakarimata Rangers, on the westen side of the Waikato River between Huntly and Ngaruawahia. The Hakarimata Walkway climbs to 374 meters to offer stunning views of the forest-clad mountain range, the Waikato River, and surrounding towns. The walkway takes a full day to track and takes you through native bush, including towering kauri and totara trees.
